HEADED FOR DIVORCE HELP!!
I have been working the same job for ten years, and I was just recently told that I am being layed off due to downsizing of the company. I am about to get a divorced in 3 months how the hell am I going to afford child support. The court has not told me how much child support is to be yet.

keep spirits up
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation, but you are not alone especially at an economic time like this. There are a lot of factors that go into the child support process, and not being able to necessarily afford it completely is common. Here is an article from this website that talks about not being able to afford child support and there is also one on child support in general, I think you will be able to adjust your payments if they are too high, because of your circumstances

he's right
He is right, you will be able to adjust your payments according to your living situation, at least that is what has happened with some people I know. this happened after their divorce though so I don't know for sure how fast your payments could be adjusted. If you just got laid off and are getting a divorce in months, I feel like you will be okay. I think they will assign your child support payments according to how much you make at the time of the divorce. But they also take into account the type of lifestyle the child has been living in, so that it does't dramatically change all of a sudden. You know you have to just do your research, so just make sure you don't go into the situation without knowing the all of the details Good Luck

Divorce Referral
I am a divorce lawyer in Chicago. Whenever I make an out of state referral, I usually check to see who is a member of the AAML, The American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers. Members of this organization really know family law.
