Keep your kids protected against the conflict you and your spouse are having.

If you and your spouse are having marital issues and are planning on legal separation or divorce you need to make sure to do a couple of things with your kids (if you have any) before you go through with your legal separation or divorce.

First you need to explain to them that the two of you are going to legally separate or divorce because your relationship is creating too much conflict in the family which in turn is not healthy for their upbringing.

You need to make it abundantly clear that it is not their fault that you are having a legal separation or divorce.

Make sure to tell them that they will see both of you (mom and dad) equally and that nothing too dramatic will change for them.

Comfort them and allow them to ask questions.

If at all possible try to have this conversation with your spouse next to you, and try to be as positive and loving as possible. You two may hate eachother but showing your kids this conflict between the two of you can be really heartbreaking and traumatic.

Try to make the transition as smooth as possible. Hire a divorce attorney, for legal separation or divorce. Make sure to try your hardest to make a mutual agreement of joint custody. If your children see you both equally it will not be as different as if your kids see one of you every other week or something else along those lines.

This will really help your kids cope with something that is becoming more and more typical in todays society.

Divorce rates are sky rocketing and handeling it the wrong way is creating a new generation of tattered and broken people. Do it right. For their future as well as your own.

Talk in Private

The good and only way to keep your child safe when the two of you have conflict is to just talk privately without your children knowing.
